My Top 3

Today I was going to write a post about a service I use and has allowed me to earn some cash without even moving a finger. So I wanted to get my affiliate link, because you know that in this wild world, nothing is really free; if I was to give something free, like a link, I wanted to get something back in return

So, I typed to URL in my browser and I got a wonderful error page from PHP. Too many connection to the mysql server and a lot of useful information: the path to the script, the name of the script, the name of the database server which, of course, gives you information about the hosting company.

But it’s not the most important; it tells me other things that are far more useful. First, when I made a search in Google about that script, I got which application it is, and even the code, the bugs, the security errors, etc. A nice way to start hacking the site. On the other hand, the second link in the Google search is just that site! Incredible. It means that the script has been failing for long enough for Google to crawl it, and pass it to the index! So that’s a hosting company that has not seen anything in days and that’s a website owner that has not visited his own site in days. Tell me about the service!!

This comes then to the question of this post: Can you fail on the Internet? And my answer is that, of course not. You give a bad image and you give to much information of your business. So, you must get with the best to be the best. You must be correctly assessed and put up proven tools. I have made the same mistakes myself, and until now, it has cost me a lot.

You must choose good pillars for your business, and the first, most important one is your web hosting. Do not look so much about Gb of disk or traffic. The most probable is that you won’t even use them. Where have seen a site of 10 Gb of disk, generating 70 Tb of traffic? By then, you’ll have enough money for you to rent 10 servers and have your own VPN between them. You’d better ask yourself if they have good tools for them to know when the server is down, or too slow.

When I choose a Web Hosting, I prefer to choose ones that have a great infrastructure. I do not like when they share some space of just one server. The database, web server and files in all the same place is far too risky. What if the server is down? Generally, I prefer firms that have web servers, apart from database servers, apart from file servers, apart from shell servers. This way, if someone runs a heavy script from shell, this server only is overloaded. Web servers are under their control if one fails, they can switch it fast.

The one I use and recommend is Dreamhost. I have more than 60 domains with them, and I have a big IP diversity, which is really great. The database is apart from the web servers and their support is really fast. So far, so good. No complaint. And believe me I would not recommend something I do not personally use.
